Keep Doing What You Do!

Hello all of you creative types out there!

I hope you’re all full of energy and positivity.  And I hope that you’re pursuing your dreams with all the vigor that you can muster.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an Author, Actor, Director, Producer, Artist, Musician, Singer or Songwriter – it’s important to maintain a good frame of mind.  One that allows you to do what you do and find that inner voice that wants to come out and share something with the rest of us.

For those of you who never get discouraged, good on you!  But many of us understand what a fragile thing confidence can be, and how a wounded psyche can lead to a downward spiral and lack of creativity.

It’s difficult to hear “No” more than you hear “Yes”. It’s tough to practice your craft in anonymity, waiting for an opportunity to shine, amidst the creeping doubts that anyone cares.

But, it’s times like those when you have to remember why it is that you do what you do.  It’s not for the recognition.  It’s not for the money. It’s for those precious few moments when the germ of an original idea springs forward, and inspiration and creativity combine to produce something where there was nothing before.  It’s the realization that what you have within you is unique and that not everyone is granted the gift of artistic expression.

We may not all reach the top of our field.  But that doesn’t make the journey any less special.  It does nothing to take away from the creative process.  So don’t spend time beating yourself up.  Be careful of self-deprecating humor which may actually just be self-pity.  Look forward to the joy that’s experienced in the creative moment.  When the ethereal becomes tangible, and able to be shared with others.

Now get back out there and keep doing what you do!
